Yes, it reminded me a bit of a product I worked on once that split data up into pieces and spread them over multiple hardware units. You didn't need all of the pieces to recreate the original data, so in theory, you could walk up the device, shoot it twice, and still get your data out.

Holograms work that way, with most of the data available in little parts of the film.
