Also, the bit about our universe being a giant machine simulation of history is I believe an end-of-universe scenario known as the strong anthropic principle, wherein tech industry jerks predict that increases in computational power will continue exponentially until the entire universe is organized to preform calculations at peak efficiency, giving that new universe the computing power to simulate many other universes in which information is not so dense, such as this universe computer's own past, which leads to a single universe creating a giant multiverse of libertarian tech-head futurists living forever or something.

I much prefer the weak anthropic principle or just the anthropic principle (because the version with the prefix strong is just silly and some people don't choose to recognize it as valid philosophy) which is just an effective counter to theist awe about how perfect the earth is for human life, and how cosmically unlikely such a place is, and hence there must be a god.
