Anyone looking for a 3 bedroom in Davis Square?

The apartment underneath will be empty as of June 1st. It's an 8-10 minute
walk from Davis, it's got three bedrooms, a living room, a dining room,
a kitchen, a pantry, a bathroom, free laundry in the basement, storage
space, gas stove, dishwasher, and potential off-street parking. While
there were trials and tribulations aplenty to get there, there is now a
new gas heater! :) We've had friends downstairs for the last couple of
years and it's been really nice, so if you think living downstairs from
eredien, doma, lutris, occasional
faerieboots, and me would be rockin' hardcore, drop me a
line. Rent is currently $2100/month. More details available on request.

I would looove to move into the Cathedral, but the extra $200 a person is probably a deal killer. ;_; I hope you guys find someone awesome.

Yeah, that is a lot. :/ You could probably stretch the space to four people, if you had a fourth you were itching to move in with. But if your current place is working for you, that's probably more effort than it's worth :)

Does the $2100 include utilities?

It does not include gas or electricity, unfortunately. I don't know how those tend to run, since I haven't lived down there.

Is $2100/mo what that place was getting two years ago, or is it what someone who understands the concept of the housing market collapse has decided it's now worth?

It's what it was getting two years ago and last year, though I'm not certain that the housing market issues have particularly lowered rents in Somerville, based on my perusal of housing ads a month or so ago. I'd be curious to know if things have gone way down in the last month, since then maybe I should argue with my landlord about paying less rent. :)

The housing market hasn't really collapsed in the Boston area. Especially in the northern suburbs. Things haven't increased very much, but nothing has really tanked.

That's what I thought. I was thinking about moving and I found places where I could get a different set of perks for the same price and a better set of perks for a higher price, but nothing tempting enough to move for.

I talked to someone last August who was claiming the vacancy rate in Cambridge was high relative to most other years. I can't imagine the market would have gotten stronger since.

If prices have gone down, it's quite possible that some landlords haven't gotten around to admitting this to themelves. If so, it's possible that the prices at which the properties that stay listed for long periods of time haven't gone down, which doesn't really prove much about the places that find renters more quickly.

Well, $2115 right now actually. If someone is thinking of moving in let me know. There are a few things that need fixing that should be done before that happens. Also, one of the bedrooms is relatively small, and four people are only going to fit if two people share one of the larger rooms. On the other hand, the location is great, and it has been good living downstairs from you.
