This is a test.

This is a test of this whole Dreamwidth infrastructure crossposting thing. I don't have time to do this for serious yet, and even when I do I plan on doing most of my reading and commenting through LJ, at least at first; it has the bulk of my friends, it has the bulk of my this-is-familiar feeling, and the things that pissed other people off about it don't bother me nearly so much. However, as per my new rule "When not adopting a social technology causes you to miss out on important information about people you care about, just adopt the social technology, Rachel," it was time. [0] After I move I'll be setting this up so that I get content from DW-only people on DW and still read everyone else through LJ. I prefer comments on LJ, not DW, and won't be doing the click-through-for-comments thing because I know that in just the last week having to use OpenID made me too lazy to leave a comment ten times. I figure if I'm that lazy, I shouldn't reasonably expect that of anyone else, ever. One benefit of setting up DW is that now I will have tickets when I click through to comment and won't have to run the OpenID rigamarole.

If you're DW-preferred, you should totally friend rax.dreamwidth.org or whatever it is it's called over t/here.

[0] This is also why I have a Facebook account.

I *was* kinda LJ agnostic...

Then they stuck that tracking redirect on all of the links to things outside of LJ? And my copy of NoScript was suddenly blocking all of the links that left LJ, because there was a lot of very ugly, very unfriendly javascript between me and the link. Not so useful to have to right click and open everything in a second window. And no, I'm not gonna just let that particular javascript run, because I don't know what it's doing. (Yes, I am paranoid. That doesn't mean they're not out to get me. ;)

So you'll be hearing from me over here if you post stuff both places. If not, there's a reason I'm still *reading* LJ...

Yay!

I will point out that some people are not comfortable with importing & cross-posting because it means dreamwidth has your livejournal password, which means not only could it grab everything in your journal (which you intend), it could in theory grab things that other people have acl'd to include you (which, while you can allow, they did not intend). Take this as you will; I don't particularly care myself, but neither do I crosspost.

Well! Welcome to the club, as it were. Would you care for some pie?

[edit] The lemmings icon is better suited for this post. :D

In case you haven't seen it, I was happily surprised to find that Dreamwidth was intelligent about cross-posting edits as well.

I kind of figured that logging in once per browser for OpenID was a really low bar for entry, but apparently that's not the case, given what you said. I definitely had a number of folks respond to my recent entries via email instead, which was unexpected.

(Also, stupid the Facebook. I would have maybe considered having an account there for the same reason that you do if they didn't require a binary gender when creating an account.)

Yay more people on DW!

I have extra invites if anyone reading this wants one.

I don't think one can avoid comments both places. There's still a steady trickle moving to DW - we'll get them all in the end.

I have a feeling that the DW migration will split our friends' lists in the long run. The furor over the link hijacking has died down even though the hijacks continue. Those people I know with DW accounts still post to both LJ and DW. I think we're keeping our toes in both waters to see what everyone else does, but it doesn't feel like the wind is blowing hard in either direction.

So, yay RSS feeds.

Also, friended you on the DW side. I must hear the further adventures of you and Cassandra!

So what is the DW thing? Just another journal site?

I'm so outta the loop XD

I like how DW separates subscribing (I wanna read you) from granting access (I trust you). And avoids overloading the term "friend".

I don't prefer either and read both; I'm perfectly willing to friend you there, but I'll read wherever you post.
