The Bardzells are cool, and they just got a massive NSF grant. I think that either of them would be good to work with.
Having said that: I know you're really excited about this, and I don't want to be a buzzkill, but I don't think you should read too much into what appears on the "about" page of the SoIC website. The copy on the website was written by people whose only concern was to attract as many undergraduates as possible, and they've done a good job at that. A new web committee has been formed to correct the website to make it better reflect what goes on at the graduate level, considering that the student population is (according to the numbers on the page you linked to) 46% grad students.
