Arriving at SEA at 10:50 AM on August 04, 2008
Departing from LGB at 2:50 PM on August 27, 2008

The current plan is to wind up in San Francisco/Berkeley on or around Aug 11, and then somehow wind up in LA on or around Aug 20 or 21. But aside from Cassandra needing to fly out of SFO on Aug 16th, that's about all I have scheduled. Current plan is to take a $100 plane from SEA to SFO and just take a bus between SF and LA; is this sane? Anyone planning on driving SF->LA around Aug 20 and want company?

I don't think I will be able to fit _all_ of my belongings for the trip into my giant pink bag but I may try :)

Also for anyone who hasn't heard I will be teaching a literature class at MIT next spring. The syllabus isn't totally ironed out yet but we will be exploring race and gender passing in literature, looking at early works like William and Ellen Craft's Running A Thousand Miles For Freedom and recent works like Patricia Powell's The Pagoda. If you've been hearing me talk about my studies for the past year: Yes, this means that I am designing a class based on my research and will get paid to present the class as an undergraduate seminar at MIT. No, I don't know how I pulled this off either.

Also I read a couple of books I keep meaning to review...

Drop me a line when you get into the Bay and have a moment. There's an awesome Sushi place just down the street from my house, and a number of other really wicked restaurants close by (like an Indian Mandarin Fusion place on Castro in Mountain View)!

Have you read Incognegro? It's a graphic novel about passing, set in the early twentieth century. Fast read, and well executed, if a bit predictable.

It's on my list of things to look at, actually... but I haven't read it yet. Maybe that will be my next Amazon gift certificate purchase. :) Thanks for the recommendation!

It's pretty excellent. I got along quite well with a much cheaper Spitfire bag for a few years (an earlier version of this one (http://www.bibsstore.com/Spitfire_Ransack_Messenger_Bag_p/2822.htm)) but eventually the bottom started to wear out and I was riding around with a big hole in my bag and that wouldn't do. My mechanic prefers Bailey Works (www.baileyworks.com) bags, which also seem very good, but I got so many positive recs on the Chrome from friends and acquaintances that I went for it. So far I have been very happy.
