Like ranyart, that was me as well, with getting bored. Except also I hadn't viewed any fanart or had any friends tell me anything specifically about it, so I didn't know ~why~ I should keep going when I was already so bored. I had some friends I knew were into it, but their posts about it were always aimed at ppl who were already reading, so I just saw "Homestuck" and skimmed further down my reading page. (But that's why I decided to give it a try, b/c I knew ppl liked it.) So anywho, rax, this post was very useful b/c it actually laid out reasons I might want to give it a go again someday, heh. And it was nice to have the time commitment estimate especially -- I'll know to wait for a time when I can dedicate that amt of time to it.
