I'll be in San Diego with a pack of friends from November 7th at 10 AM to November 10th at 10 PM. If you'd like to hang out with me and/or my pack of friends, drop me a line; I'm especially looking at [livejournal.com profile] q10  and [livejournal.com profile] skuldchan , but now that I think about it, [livejournal.com profile] gotspit, you and your compatriots should totally join us as well, and I am sure I am forgetting someone else in that area who reads this. I'll bring Race for the Galaxy! :)

In Wow I Really Am A Damn Yuppie News, this trip is the fifth in a series of Veteran's Day Weekends where a bunch of old friends from college swarm upon some unsuspecting city and see its sights with the deadly clarity of our vision and process its liquor with the terrifying efficiency of our livers. (Trieste, trieste etait mon livre.) Previous locations include Las Vegas (Fur and Loathing in Las Vegas; if you've ever heard me talk about "the Fur and Loathing Trip," this yearly gathering is it), Ann Arbor, New Orleans, and Miami. If anyone has any recommendations for exciting things to do or see in San Diego, or vegan restaurants, I'd love to hear about them. Or hotels! We haven't picked a hotel yet, because we are indecisive. In past years we've gotten a big suite in some hotel and all hung out in it and it's been awesome; I personally haven't found anything like that in a reasonable price range yet.

Travel! Clearly that's the thing to do with a real person salary and a lifestyle involving living in a shared apartment, baking our own bread, and biking everywhere. (Seriously, lots of bread. Homemade focaccia for breakfast recently. This pleases me greatly.) Aside from possibly visiting my family in Wisconsin for Thanksgiving ([livejournal.com profile] iankeith  are you going to be at home for Thanksgiving, actually?) or Cassandra's family the week before, I don't have any solid plans... places on my radar include New York City and, oddly enough, North Carolina.

OK this has been a fun diversion. Back to work and graduate school. I need to get ahead if I want to be able to take a weekend off from schoolwork...

I am in both of those places (er, not at once)! Poke me if you're coming to town.

Wait, you're in North Carolina?? OK that's _totally_ critical mass. Maybe this March or something.

Well, only sort of. I'm mostly in NYC, but my parents moved to Chapel Hill, NC a little less than 2 years ago. So I'm there on miscellaneous breaks and things (that is, when I'm not in LA ... I have a coherent home, really). I *might* be in NC visiting my family in March for spring break or something, but honestly I haven't gotten close to thinking that far ahead.

Keep me posted when you do; I'm not really thinking that far ahead either, just talking like I am :)

Damn. I need to start paying attention to Fur and Loathing trips early enough to be able to go. I think this is the third(?) year in a row that I completely didn't remember about Fur and Loathing until after I had other plans for Veteran's Day weekend.

The planning this year was kind of... haphazard. I just bought tickets today. Maybe I will have the free time to actually plan better next year!

Oh, god. Homemade focaccia sounds fantastic.

(Also, yay for North Carolina on the radar!)

It's so, so, so, so, so good. Eredien is the bestest ever. :) The current focaccia is whole wheat with olive tapenade. <3 <3 <3 <3 <#

So I will unfortunately probably not be available that weekend as it is the one before a major Neuroscience conference (it's so big it's just called "Neuroscience" by the neuroscientists, but I call it SfN [Society for Neuroscience] because aren't all our lives enriched by more three letter acronyms?), and I will probably be running around like a chicken with its head cut off preparing my poster and stuff like that. D:

Sorry. *hangs head*

But if it makes you better, I have been spreading the joy of Race for the Galaxy around my friends, and it seems that a lot of them have decided to get it themselves. Yay!

In regards to a comment you received here, I got you something James Joyce related that I thought you had to have... Can you email me your current address?

Awwwwwww adorable! I especially love her hello kitty outfit. :)

Actually, if I do visit my grandparents in Wisconsin, I might be able to fly into Chicago and rent a car... I'll keep you posted. It's good to hear from you!
