The following photograph may contain Steer Roast spoilers. You probably don't care, but I cut tagged it just in case.

I went all out and had it done at Judy Jetson's. Expensive, but oh my god squee. Depending on my mood, it's either my "I've followed my exercise routine for a month" haircut or my "Muahhahahahahahaha I am unfirable!" haircut. Either way, it rocks. [livejournal.com profile] kilroi  says this picture looks like I am going to stab you through the internet, so, watch out I guess. I wonder how hard it would be to dye my eyebrows...

It could be "I stab you through the internet," but in the setup I'm using at the moment, it looks like you're staring at my chest really, really intensely.

... I'm going to put a clever t-shirt on now and pretend you're staring at that.

Look at the half dimpled smirk, she isn't reading your t-shirt, she's keeping an eye on your jugular!

True, we can't see your hands, maybe you're just playing some sort of vertical version of "Operation" and you've got your tweezers on the breadbasket and just need to get it out slowly.

Oh my gahd, is Judy's really worth it? I want to make my hair that dark dark true purple and it will be impossible to do it myself and I kind of want to shill out the big money for it. But, I dont know! Aaaah~

Also you look badass. The end.

Can you describe more about what you mean by "dark true purple"?

I know *all about* dying hair purple, in many shades, and I consider my own to be "dark true purple", so I might be able to give advice.

So... the amount of money was kind of obscene, although from the scraggly mess I was starting with, totally worth it. I know that [livejournal.com profile] badoingdoing does her own dark purple hair, and it looks really good. Ask me again in a few weeks when I see whether or not it's still that awesome in a while. I saw Nicole; she did a great job with the bleach, with the dye, and actually with cutting my hair too. There's so much less of it, and it looks better for it! If touchups cost less I will keep going there. If touchups cost three figures, I will probably not, if I can find the same color somewhere else. I love my hair, but I also love food. :)

(Also actually if I think about the cost on an hourly basis, given that I was there for three hours, it's not more expensive than other salon haircuts I've had. But be prepared for sticker shock if you're like me and usually get your hair cut by your cousin.)

I am willing to touch up your dye if you like and if you use readily-accessible dyes. Probably not as experienced as a salon person, but I have done it before.

Try Special Effects Deep Purple dye. It's the best shade if you're going for that dark purple color, and it's also one of the best hair dyes of all time.

You should bleach your hair if it's not blonde, and use toner to remove any yellow/orange hue.

Just go to Sally Beauty Supply and describe what the look you want. They will help you out, but they might not carry the Special Effects.

*grin* Brilliant, I like it! Also not sure if that's really a stabby look, but very...intent. On something. Probably something nefarious.

I think I can't quite justify going purple until this summer, but it sounds like a friend's going to come by this evening and glop henna on me. No idea how that'll turn out, aside from "different". (But then my last couple of Roasts have involved last-minute dyejobs, so this is nothing new...)

I'm glad I got to say hello and do some scattered-Roast-socialization with you, at least. As always, I could use an extra several days/week in the area to see people, but I generally just can't take that kind of time.

How was the rest of your Roast & weekend?

or my "Muahhahahahahahaha I am unfirable!" haircut.

I have gone beyond Unfirable Hair into the realm of Unfirable Cosmetic Appliances. I'll see your purple hair with an asymmetric magenta streak and raise you gluing horns to my forehead, then casually going in to work.

I sort of have this plot, maybe, to acclimate my coworkers over the course of another couple years to weird hair, and then maybe facial piercings, and one day I'll just be wearing cat ears and no one will even notice. :)

But I am not quite that unreplaceable yet, I don't think.

Oddly enough, my mother (a high school theatre design teacher) has adopted the same approach. First she started off with tints and slight modifications, and currently she's up to a maroon color that slowly fades back to brown. She has expressed a desire for green or blue hair, but doesn't yet think she can get away with it. Though when discussing the matter with her school's principal, the principal said something to the effect of, "Well, fewer of the students would do it then." :P

Love the hair! Just had the "what if I dyed my hair rainbow" conversation with the boss, and the moral of the story was that he didn't personally care, but that if I wanted to meet with higher-ups/get promoted it might be an issue. :/ So I am currently brainstorming dye jobs that look somewhat professional but still awesome. (My vague plan is "very chunky highlights")

I don't recommend the eyebrows, by the way, it's a huge bother and the dye doesn't stick well.

Let me know what you come up with!

Personally I think this looks better if only because I'm planning on putting together a much more intentional and less slapdash appearance. But I don't think everyone will see it that way.

You look amazing.

I wouldn't dye your eyebrows though... the dye there usually sticks more to your skin than your hair. What about lightening them a little and then filling them in with some liner or powder in the color you like? Do you ever wear makeup? (You should totally rock some dramatic eye makeup with that hairstyle! My favorite makeup product is a 24/7 eyeliner pencil from Urban Decay. You can buy them at Sephora. They come in awesome highly-pigmented colors, they go one so easily, and once they dry they stay on all day.)

If you're dead set on trying, my advice is to apply a little developer to them before the bleach/dye. I've always had to do that for my eyebrows and the hair along my forehead or near my ears. And use q-tips for everything.

Also, call me!
