Someone pointed me at http://www.fishfishknits.com/hats/foxhat.jpg
today. This is a fine hat that I would totally wear, but it is $40,
which is an awful lot of money for _yarn._ (You may be familiar
with yarn; it is an object that costs much less than $40.) Also,
it is too hot to wear a hat or, really, anything in this state.
This hat reminds me of a story.
So this one time I was walking down the street during the evening.
I am pretty sure the street was something near campus (MIT), like
Vassar or Mass Ave or maybe Main. Some woman looking in the 28-35
cruft bracket walks up to me and says "Hi Rax!" I say, "Umm, hi,"
having no idea who this woman is. She introduces herself (I promptly
forget her name) and says she knows of me through a bunch of
activities, I want to say Mystery Hunt and SIPB or something.
Then she starts telling me about how she had found this knitting
pattern for a hat with cat ears, and had started knitting it for
me to give me as a present, but then she realized that actually,
giving some girl ten years younger than her who she had never met
a present might actually be kind of creepy, so then she didn't.
I could really only respond with "Oh, I wouldn't have minded it,
I would have loved the hat," which was true.
Running through my head was also "It wouldn't have been any
creepier than this interaction." After this, she left.
I don't believe I have ever seen or spoken to this woman again.
I would totally have taken the hat. Also, what the hell?
