So this fall I attended an event called KinkForAll and enjoyed it a lot. I wrote about it here a while ago (and also wrote specifically about the talk I gave, and plan to incorporate those comments into my next one, so thank you!). This Saturday, from 10 to 6:30, is KinkForAll Providence, at Brown; I'm going, [livejournal.com profile] eredien  is probably going, and I've been trying to convince [livejournal.com profile] gaudior . Actually, I think a bunch of you ([livejournal.com profile] rathdei !) would dig this --- it's about broad-scope kink, not just whips and chains, and it's got an academic bent without making people feel out of place for not having credentials. My original plan was to take the commuter rail down and accept showing up an hour and a half late; if a bunch of people want to go from Boston, though, I can fire up the Giant Red Van of Doom, which seats seven, and assuage my environmental guilt (dammit [livejournal.com profile] damerell  every time I sit down in a car I imagine you tsking now) with the knowledge that the commuter rail is $15.50 round trip and I'd be saving my friends a bunch of money.

Also if you come down I can take you to one of my favorite Providence restaurants afterward. :) The commuter rail runs late enough that we could do this even without a car, although we'd either have to grab a cab or beg one of my family members for a ride.

Let me know; sooner is better if possible. Yay!

If you want to show up at the event briefly, wander off if you don't like it, and then join up for delicious vegan food, I'm down with that.

Nah, I'm mostly just kidding around. I'm pretty sure I'm booked to go to a comic publishing event with Peg this Saturday!

I'd come along in a second, but I'm booked to be looking at lasers then. I hope you'll forgive me. :)

Yeah, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ab3nd. And no smart remarks from the peanut gallery about how lasers are one of my kinks, thank you. :>

I can walk to this! When are you talking, and where? Also, I think I need to find someone else to bring to not feel awkward.

I'm talking, but I don't know when/where yet; at the beginning of the day there's a big signup sheet, and people take rooms and time slots and sign up for presentations, and can add or change things as the day goes on. It's an "Unconference" model, which has a couple of issues but in a bunch of ways is really cool. I'm proooobably talking about how to keep sexuality-focused groups inclusive? I have most of a presentation done on that now? I could talk about whatever and it probably wouldn't be terrible but having prepped notecards makes me way more comfortable. If there are a ton of open slots I might do a second off the cuff talk on something silly. You could do a talk, actually! I'd go to it :)

I don't think you'd feel that awkward, at least not knowing me and a couple of the people I'll be bringing, but feel free to drag along whoever --- it's open to the public. I've considered inviting all of the family but I'm sort of worried the name will scare them off :/

The last one I went to, there were one or two talks where I was like "Actually I do not want to know anything about that really, thank you!" --- but there was always something else going on at the same time, so I didn't have to :) And the talks are only 20 minutes, so if a talk isn't great or isn't what you thought it would be, it's not "oh god I am stuck in this room full of professors I have to impress for two hours," it's just fifteen minutes and you're done.

Even if you decide you're not super interested, if you want to join up with our mob for dinner, I'll definitely let you know. If it's actually going to be a big group I might make a reservation at Julian's or something? Especially if I can convince Cassandra she wants to do the driving home. ;)

Oh, cool! I'd be interested in hearing you speak about that!

Looking forward to seeing you again. :)

In a positive light, I hope. But even if not, I'd appreciate the feedback. :)

Yea, okay! That sounds interesting, even though I only have an inkling of what it means. But yes, I will probably go and see you talk and some point and maybe visit a few of the other ones too. Hell, I could do worse things with my saturday.

I'll definitely join you for food after.

Aw, dang. I've been wanting to attend one of the KFA conferences since you mentioned it. Too bad I'm already registered for the MA chapter of the ACLU's annual conference that same day. Hope you have fun!

I went to that last year, it was awesome. There's talk of another Boston one in late March or April; I'll try to post further in advance next time :)
