Pokemon: Still Trying To Catch Them All
Sep. 6th, 2010 10:30 amSorry, readership; if you don't care about pokemon and don't care about gender theory, I'm probably gonna be pretty boring until December. :)
I only get 0-1 hours a day to spend on Pokemon --- if I get most of my work done I'll play a bit before bed --- but I've been slowly increasing my pokedex and am starting to hit a wall. Some of these I know how to get and it mostly involves "go catch an X and then level it a bit," but some of them... I mean I guess I do technically own Hoenn and Sinnoh carts but uggggggh. Anyway if you want to trade I'm totally down, or if there's something obvious I'm not thinking of that'd be awesome too. Annoyingly I am running out of things I have seen but not caught, which makes using GTS harder. Anyway, here's what I don't have; I prefer not-hacked and not-cloned except for event giveaways that I couldn't possibly get otherwise:
If there's something you want or want bred, let me know, if it's not on this list I can probably do it. (Although I've traded away some things in order to get things on GTS.)

Date: 2010-09-06 04:32 pm (UTC)The generation II games (gold and silver) were able to trade with the red/blue/yellow gen I games --- it was Game Boy color to regular Game Boy and that worked fine. You needed to do this in order to get some small number of Pokemon, although the Johto and Kanto regions are both represented in Gold/Silver, so you didn't need it for that many.
When they went to the GBA, the new games (generation III) weren't backward compatible. So the Hoenn games (Emerald/Sapphire) couldn't complete a pokedex until the re-releases of the Gen 1 games, FireRed and LeafGreen; I think there was some mechanism in place that let you get the Johto region pokemon, maybe a Safari Zone or something. Because backward compatibility went away, pokemon data structures got new features that made pokemon breeding and battling more complex.
The Gen IV games for the DS let you move pokemon permanently from the gen III games to the gen IV games, but you can't trade bidirectionally. Using the Safari Zone in HeartGold and SoulSilver, you theoretically only need the five DS games to complete your pokedex although there might be a could of legendaries missing. (Well, you can get Mew without trading up from FR/LG if you play My Pokemon Ranch on the Wii.)
Nintendo also periodically holds giveaways at movies and such for special pokemon you can't get otherwise. Most of these unfortunately never hit the US, so getting those pokemon --- some of which unlock special events in the game --- is hard, and those are the situations where I don't care if they're cloned, because I am not going to time travel to Japan in 2008 to get a pokemon. ...mostly since I don't have a time machine.
